Car sickness
Car sickness
Why does it happen?
When we travel in a vehicle, our brain gets confused.
On one hand, when sitting down, our brain thinks we are still. On the other hand, since the vehicle is in motion, our brain believes we are moving.
This confusion causes motion sickness!
Tips for those who get motion sick
1. Don't eat too much before starting the journey: having a full stomach increases motion sickness.
2. In a car, sit in the middle seat: it's the one that causes the least motion sickness.
3. In a train, sit facing the direction of travel, not backwards.
4. Heat can cause motion sickness, so on hot days, you can roll down the window for fresh air or use the air conditioning.
5. Never read in the car: books, comics, mobile phones, tablets... All of this can make us feel sick.
Tips for the drivers
Leave early in the morning when it's still dark: that way, those who normally get motion sick can sleep more easily during the journey.
Drive smoothly, mainly avoiding sudden accelerations and stops and reducing speed in sections of curvy roads. Imagine there's a glass of water in the car and you don't want a single drop to be spilled!
And remember, always ask your doctor!
