Pneumonia
Pneumonia
What is pneumonia?
Pneumonia is a lung infection that can be caused by a virus or bacteria.
The symptoms include cough, mucus, fever, lung pain and difficulty breathing.
How is it detected?
Using an oximeter, you can see if blood oxygen levels are low.
With a stethoscope, crackling sounds like crumpled paper, known as "crepitus," can be heard in the lungs.
Finally, an ultrasound or X-ray can confirm the diagnosis.
What should you do?
If it's bacterial pneumonia, an antibiotic must be taken to eliminate the bacteria causing it. Additionally, a syrup for fever and pain can be taken until symptoms subside.
Plenty of rest is also required, and physical exertion should be avoided even a few days after symptoms disappear. Lastly, drinking a lot is necessary to prevent dehydration.
And remember, always ask your doctor!
